What to know before you follow them

Palace rarely challenge for anything but the cups, and their best young players are usually sold. Selhurst Park is old and that is part of the appeal, not a flaw to be fixed.

What people sing

  • Glad All Over

The walkout anthem. When Selhurst is bouncing, this is usually why.

Who the rivals are

  • Brighton & Hove Albion

The M23 derby. Geography and recent history have made this sharper than outsiders expect.

Following them from America

Steady in big cities, helped by American players and by fans who like a proper old ground.
